Design, Build Quality, & fit:-

Hidizs MS1-2

Just like the other products from Hidizs, the Mermaid MS1 has a brilliant build quality with eye-catching looks. The earpieces have a universal CIEM like design. They are made up of high-quality CNC aluminum alloy in black finish with complementing golden edges. The black gold combo looks rich and complements the stunning look of the pair. The faceplate has Hidizs logo in the center. The build quality is very good and rich. It doesn’t look like it is a 100$ product as the pair has build quality and looks comparable to the flagship IEMs. The ear shells are quite lightweight and provide a comfortable and firm fit for the users. They are of normal size, neither huge nor too small. They cover up the entire ear canal and provide very good noise isolation.

Driving the Hidizs MS1:-

Hidizs MS1 is very easy to drive, it sounds brilliant straight out of our smartphone, Huawei P30 Pro though we had to push the volume a bit high. With DAPs like Hidizs AP80 Pro and iBasso DX160, we never have to push the volume above 50% level.

Sound Quality:-

Hidizs MS1-3

Hidizs Mermaid MS1 has bright and neutral sound output. The pair has an aggressive lower end, producing fast thumps that complement vocals and other details in our music. MS1 has a V-shaped sound signature with recessed mids, though there is a slight bump in the upper mids bringing vocals forward. Vocals show great crisp clarity with a natural tonality, especially female vocals are a bliss to listen on the Mermaid MS1. Acoustic details are reproduced brilliantly with good micro detailing. Treble portion sounds smooth and transparent, though some instruments like violins show some sibilance at louder volumes. The soundstage feels adequately wide and shows good imaging capabilities with crisp instrument separation. Let’s discuss the different areas of the sound frequency range.

Lower End/Bass:-

The lower end is reproduced beautifully and comes to notice with deep aggressive thumps. Bass shows good speed, and resolution. The sub-bass portion has good amounts of rumble. Deep bass thumps complement mids beautifully and make the pair sound musical and groovy. The pair makes genres like electronic, hip-hop sound outstanding and lively.

Mids:-

Carrying a V-Shaped sound signature, mids feel a bit recessed here with a bump in upper mids bringing vocals upfront. The pair shows crisp and layered acoustic details. Vocals sound crisp and complement with the groovy beats from the lower end. Acoustic instruments have a feeling of depth with an airy representation. Vocal based songs like Cannonball by Damien Rice, I Cry by Yao Si Ting, sound lively and natural, they are a bliss to listen with the MS1.

Treble:-

The MS1 sounds bright and has good details in the treble portion. Instruments sound well detailed and show good clarity. But some instruments like Violins show some sibilance at louder volumes. Though the treble portion shows good attack and fast response. Quick metal songs by artists like Opeth, Disturbed, shows good clarity in the instruments.

Final Verdict:-

Hidizs MS1-4

Finally, we must say, the Hidizs Mermaid is a very good pair of in-ear monitors. It provides very good value for money with its outstanding build, beautiful looks, and good sound quality. The sound quality has an excellent lower end, beautiful vocals, crisp instrumental details, and an adequately wide soundstage to complement our music. The pair is priced at just 99$, you can order one for yourself from our store here.
