Setup recommendation: power hunger

Setup recommendation: power hunger

It’s a matter of fact: the Tin HiFi P1 is a power-hungry earphone. Planar IEMs are rare, and even more are successful ones: Tin Audio has been smart both tuning-wise and regarding the price tag. The P1 is a competitive product, but it needs a lot of power to shine. That’s why we are suggesting some good sources which helps these orthodynamic in ears to give their best.

  1. FiiO M11 Pro (DAP only)

This device is perfect for driving the P1 at their best. And it’s not even the most powerful FiiO out there. Even though the base model of M11 is more powerful, the THX module provides a better overall quality of sound. The single ended output is already more than enough to drive the P1, but if you need more power, there are two balanced outputs (4.4mm and 2.5mm) with a lot more juice to give. And we suggest a balanced cable to you to take advantage of that power increase.

Capable of 1W of power, the XD-05 Plus is a hell of an Amp. And it has user replaceable op-amps, so if you need to fine tune it to your preference, you can easily do it. The DAC inside is really good too, so you can use a really basic player like the Shanling M0 to achieve a basic stack, and use the DAP as a simple library storage.

  1. SMSL SP200 (Desktop solution)

For a desktop Amp, we suggest the fabulous THX certified SP200 by SMSL. It’s also capable of balanced output, if your source can do it. If you buy the aforementioned suggested cable, you would still need an adapter, because the balanced output of the SP200 is XLR. The single ended is already really powerful, even for over ear headphones, so you won’t have any issues at driving the little great P1. There’s an official upgrade cable too, for the P1, which will be linked below. SMSL SP200 is a great solution if you already have a capable source – and DAC! It’s an amazing dedicated tool. You can also pair it with the XD-05 Plus to take advantage of the great DAC inside the XDUOO and the THX module of the SP200 at the same time.
