It’s an open-back dynamic driver headphone that houses a custom-developed 50mm full-range dynamic driver utilizing an ultra-thin carbon fiber diaphragm and fully-flexible suspension. Crafted using traditional North American Black Walnut wood, the pair features premium aesthetics and a natural sound profile. It is tuned to deliver an attractive sound with a warm, lush profile across the frequency band.

The standout feature of the DUNU Mortise is its earcups, precision-machined from North American Black Walnut. Beyond the striking visual grain, the walnut was selected for its natural damping properties, which help stabilize internal resonances and reduce high-frequency artifacts. This ensures that the output remains pure and clean, even during complex musical passages. As mentioned earlier, DUNU has equipped the Mortise with a large 50mm custom-developed dynamic driver unit. It features an ultra-thin carbon fiber diaphragm paired with an independent flexible surround suspension, ensuring deeply extended bass response with tight control and unmatched clarity across the frequency band. DUNU has also featured a high-flux magnetic circuit utilizing N52 Neodymium magnets, which helps the pair deliver lightning-fast transients and a textured bass response. The open-back architecture further enhances the user’s listening experience with a wide, holographic soundstage that avoids the “closed” feel of closed-back headphones.

DUNU has tuned the Mortise for a versatile sound signature. The pair offers a warm, smooth, and full-bodied sound presentation. It features dual 3.5mm plugs on the headphone side and swappable 3.5mm single-ended and 4.4mm balanced plugs for the source side.
