Deciphering AFUL's Single BA: Revealing Our Innovative Development

AFUL Acoustics has made a great name for itself in a very short period. They have developed the products with great research and proper patented technologies. This has led to the development of several amazing products such as the Performer5, Performer8, etc. The product that has created a lot of amusement among the audiophiles is their recently launched set of IEMs, the AFUL MagicOne.

Different from other IEMs in the market that feature multi-driver hybrid, multi-BA, or DD configurations, AFUL mastered the pair with a single Balanced Armature driver unit. When the market is full of options to choose from, Why did AFUL end up developing its very own single-balanced armature driver IEM?? Even though the market is full of many BA driver options from reputed brands like Knowles, SONION, etc. Still, AFUL developed its own BA driver for the MagicOne. When the project for MagicOne was in its initial stage, AFUL aimed to bring you guys a unique and satisfying experience with a single BA driver set. They took this as a challenge for themselves, breaking down the boundaries, and the deficiencies of BA driver and bringing out the best possible sound that satisfies the listeners with its quality.

Earlier in the design process, AFUL tried many ready-made full-frequency balanced armature drivers from leading brands in the market including SONION and Knowles. But none of the drivers satisfied the requirements, they lacked their performance in the low-frequency presence and ultra-high-frequency extensions, and none of them were compatible with the vision that AFUL had for MagicOne. Because for the MagicOne, AFUL had different plans, It was to extend the capabilities of technology and bring something new, something innovative that can take the performance of a single BA to a different level. 

Why Single BA Tech Was needed?

Single Driver in-ear monitors always have a fascinating approach. When some people are running behind the number of drivers, achieving great sound from a single Driver has always attracted AFUL as developers. Many Multi-Balanced Armature driver configurations are present in the market today. But MagicOne aims to bring quality sound with a single Balanced Armature driver, a new and challenging approach.

So, the Process Begins:-

After many months of R&D, AFUL finally designed a broad-range Balanced Armature driver unit using an optimized new structure, and new high-end quality materials. Their meticulous craftsmanship benefitted with a driver unit that reduces the complexity of the circuit and enhances the high-frequency extension as well. With an optimized design structure and new materials, the high-frequency extensions of the driver showed noticeable improvements. As a full-range unit, this driver had a similar roll-off in the 10K-20K region as one would have with a dedicated High-Frequency driver in a multi-driver arrangement. This was an achievement on its own, It was the first step by AFUL into developing a single BA that sounds like a multi-driver setup.

This new driver reduces the complexity of the Circuit and makes them smaller, giving good hopes for a Single BA setup for the MagicOne. But the process had just begun, AFUL started testing different things. With a few technical touches, the driver started sounding amazing with excellent extensions in the high-frequency segments, and rich details that brought listeners to the centre of the music. The low-midrange performance and the overall sound signature came out to be full, warm, smooth, and musical.

When AFUL incorporated its different technologies such as the innovative SE-Math Electro-Acoustic Intermodulation technology, and Nautilus Acoustic Maze Technology, AFUL achieved what they wanted with the MagicOne. The beloved Single-Balanced Armature Setup delivered a sound that could be compared to different Multi-BA driver configurations in today’s IEMs.

AFUL implemented the driver in a transparent shell, making it visible. AFUL’s different techs such as the Unique Conch Acoustic structure are also visible through the transparent shell of the MagiOne. This gives the set a more fun and psychedelic look. They designed the face covers with snowlike crystal particles, treating the MagicOne with an exclusively charming and delicate look, something that AFUL had only imagined was now in prepared and fully ready to hit the markets.
